Sony Patents Technology That Could Warn PS6 Players of Danger With Vibration
Sony has patented a PlayStation technology that lets a controller recognize dangerous sounds in a game and warn the player with vibration and light signals. The system can also work with older games.
The DualSense controller already lets players feel raindrops and bowstring tension through haptic feedback. The Japanese company is now preparing a next step that may arrive with the PS6.
The system would analyze a game’s audio track before the sound reaches the speakers. It would separate background music from important cues such as enemy footsteps behind the player, an incoming projectile, or a sudden noise in a horror game. The controller could then warn the player in advance, giving extra time to dodge or counterattack.
The patent also describes LEDs around the touchpad that would show the direction of a threat, along with visual cues on the TV screen.

The technology works at the console’s operating system level. As a result, the new effects could appear even in older games that were not designed for such features.
