This time Ubisoft is collaborating with the FX network.
FX has officially commissioned a television adaptation of Ubisoft’s Far Cry franchise. The series is planned as an anthology: each season will tell a self-contained story in a new setting with a different cast — mirroring how the games shift location and characters.
The adaptation is being led by Noah Hawley — creator of Fargo and the recent Alien project — alongside Rob Mc, co-creator of the sitcom It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Deadline reports that Mc is likely to star, at least in the first season.
“What I love about the Far Cry series is its anthology character. Each game is a variation on a theme, much like every season of Fargo. To build an expansive action series that can reinvent itself year after year while continually examining human nature through that complex, chaotic lens is a dream come true. I’m excited to work with Rob and to bring our bold, ambitious vision to the screen.”
Nick Grad, President of FX Entertainment, noted that the network has released more than thirty seasons of projects from Hawley and Mc, and said he’s confident their new series will be “original, thrilling, and wildly entertaining.”
“Ubisoft showed incredible generosity by entrusting us with one of gaming’s most iconic worlds. Throughout this process my FX family has steadfastly supported me with faith and encouragement.”
No details have been disclosed yet about which game or setting will serve as the basis for the first season, nor has a premiere date been announced.
