A concert attendee tragically lost his life on Saturday night (June 20) after falling from an upper-level seating area at Madison Square Garden during a performance by the rock band Goose.
The 51-year-old victim, whose identity is being withheld pending family notification, fell from an elevated section while attending the sold-out concert at the legendary New York City venue.
According to a statement provided by the NYPD, officers discovered the man unconscious and unresponsive inside the arena at approximately 9:51 p.m. He was subsequently rushed to Bellevue Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
While the circumstances surrounding the fall remain under investigation, reports indicate the man had been seated in the 300-level stands.
Goose, currently on tour promoting their latest studio effort, Big Modern!, issued a heartfelt statement via social media following the incident. Saturday’s event was the second of two consecutive sold-out nights at the venue.
“We are deeply saddened and heartbroken to learn of the tragic event that occurred at tonight’s show,” the band shared on Instagram. “We extend our deepest sympathy to everyone affected. Thank you to the emergency personnel and venue staff who provided immediate care and support.”
As of Sunday morning, the band’s scheduled appearance at Central Park SummerStage remained on the calendar.
This incident marks another somber occurrence at a major New York venue; in 2021, a fan suffered a fatal fall from a stadium balcony during a Dead & Company show at Citi Field in Queens.
