A fresh wave of optimism is sweeping through the Obsidian Entertainment fanbase.

It appears that the community’s long-standing demand for modernized versions of the Fallout franchise is finally on the verge of being met.

Jez Corden, a prominent insider and journalist at Windows Central, recently dismissed speculation regarding a direct tie-in game for Amazon’s Fallout series, while simultaneously revealing intriguing details from his industry contacts:

Rumors suggest a Fallout 3 remake is in development, following the blueprint of the anticipated Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, alongside a refreshed version of Fallout: New Vegas. Obsidian Entertainment—renowned for titles like Grounded and The Outer Worlds—is reportedly balancing four distinct projects of varying scales. Furthermore, Tim Cain, a primary architect of the original Fallout, has recently rejoined the fold. While it is not yet confirmed if these projects are set within the Fallout universe, it is clear that Xbox is accelerating its first-party content production.

Bethesda Game Studios, Bethesda Softworks

Development on the Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion remaster was previously linked to Virtuos. With updates on that specific project thinning out, speculation has intensified that the studio’s resources have been pivoted toward the high-priority task of updating Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas for a new generation.
