Following the monumental success of Palworld, Pocketpair is set to translate its addictive mechanics into the physical realm. The Palworld Official Card Game is slated for release on July 30, 2026, and we have compiled a comprehensive guide to help you master the rules and hit the ground running on day one.
In collaboration with tabletop experts at Bushiroad, Pocketpair has crafted a TCG experience that authentically captures the spirit of the original game. Beyond simple creature combat, the mechanics incorporate base management and equipment synergy, allowing you to outfit your Pals for battle just as you would in the digital version.
The Basics: Deck Construction and Setup
Your 50-card deck is comprised of five distinct categories: Pals, Gear, Structures, Events, and Souls. Pals form the backbone of your strategy, while Souls are essential for deploying your units and support cards onto the battlefield. Before the match begins, both your primary deck and your Soul deck must be positioned in their designated spots on your playmat.
At the start of the game, players draw an opening hand of five cards. If your initial hand is unfavorable, you are permitted a single “mulligan”—returning all five cards to your deck, shuffling, and drawing a fresh hand.
After determining who goes first via a quick tiebreaker, such as rock-paper-scissors, the setup phase begins. The second player initiates the game by placing one Soul into their Soul Area. The first player then begins their Soul Phase by adding two Souls. Throughout the game, players will continue to accrue two Souls per turn, up to a maximum cap of ten.
Commanding Your Pals
Strategy in the Palworld TCG revolves around managing your limited resource of Souls. Each card features a cost in its top-left corner, dictating how many Souls are required to bring it into play. Once a card is deployed, those Souls are “rested” (rotated sideways) to indicate they are currently committed.
Once active on the field, your Pals can perform one of three primary actions: attacking an opponent’s Pal or structure, striking the opponent directly, or standing guard to block incoming attacks. Like the Souls, cards that perform an action are placed in the “rest” position until your next turn.
Battles are determined by a card’s Power value. If a stronger Pal attacks a weaker one, the defender is sent to the graveyard; if the attacker has higher power, the defender is defeated while the attacker retains their health and power. When attacking an opponent’s life counter, you must reference the “Strike” number. The opponent must then flip cards from the top of their deck equal to that number; if no “Lucky” symbols (colorful stars) appear, they lose points equal to the strike count. Victory is achieved by reducing your opponent’s life to zero.
Leveraging Gear and Strategy
Each turn brings new opportunities to expand your board state. After refreshing your cards and adding more Souls, you can deploy Structures or equip Gear to bolster your defenses. Structures offer unique utility—such as the Primitive Furnace, which grants extra card draw—though they possess durability and can be destroyed.
Gear cards act as powerful modifiers. Equipping a Single-Shot Rifle to a Pal, for instance, allows you to deal significant damage directly to an enemy unit. For those tight spots, Event cards provide one-time, game-changing effects. Cards like “Reckless Charge” provide an immediate Power boost, which can be the difference between a devastating loss and a crucial tactical victory.
Getting Started: Trial Decks and Boosters
When the game launches on July 30, we recommend beginners start with one of the two pre-constructed Trial Decks. These decks include a balanced selection of card types, with one version utilizing Red/Blue cards and the other featuring Purple/Green, providing a solid foundation for any new player.
On the same day, players can dive into the first booster set, Dawn of Palpagos, which is perfect for collectors and those looking to customize their decks. Whether you are aiming to dominate the competitive scene or simply collect your favorite Pals, the Palworld Official Card Game offers a deep, rewarding, and highly tactical experience.
