Consumers’ spending on game-streaming devices has fallen by 9%
According to Circana analyst Mat Piscatella, in the U.S. sales report for September 2025 more than 5% of PlayStation 5 owners also purchased the PlayStation Portal. In other words, roughly one in twenty PlayStation enthusiasts now owns a controller with a built-in screen.
Piscatella also noted that year‑over‑year spending on game‑streaming hardware declined by 9%.
Rumors suggest Sony is investing in a handheld gaming device similar to Valve’s Steam Deck and the ASUS ROG Ally — reportedly planned to debut alongside the PlayStation 6 and capable of running games natively rather than merely streaming them from a console.
