Even Spaceballs 2’s Cast Reveal Is a Spoof of Star Wars

Amazon MGM Studios revealed that production on the tentative Spaceballs sequel — currently being called Spaceballs 2 in reports — has officially begun, accompanied by a cheeky table-read photograph of the cast and crew. The image intentionally riffs on the well-known 2015 The Force Awakens ensemble photo, signaling which original players are returning and who’s been added to the roster.

Among the veterans reprising their roles are Rick Moranis (Dark Helmet), Bill Pullman (Lone Starr), Daphne Zuniga (Vespa), George Wyner (likely returning as Colonel Sandurz), and Mel Brooks (back as Yogurt and Skroob). For Moranis, this marks his first live-action film role in roughly three decades.

New additions spotted at the table read include Lewis Pullman, Keke Palmer, Josh Gad, and Anthony Carrigan, though their characters have largely been kept under wraps. Industry reports indicate Lewis Pullman may play Starburst, the son of Lone Starr and Vespa, while Palmer is listed as a character named Destiny. In the photo, Josh Gad sits beside a conspicuous prop — a giant fire hydrant — prompting immediate speculation that he could occupy a Barf-adjacent role. (Hollywood Reporter).

The production has deliberately kept story specifics and the official title vague, leaning into that self-referential humor rather than offering concrete plot details.
