European Developers Fear AI Will Force Faster Work and More Game Releases

They are not particularly worried about their jobs.

According to the Talent Signals Reshaping the Games Industry study, 61% of specialists in Europe fear that AI will lead to the need to work faster and release more games.

At the same time, only 35% of respondents believe that the spread of AI could lead to a drop in demand for their profession or the complete loss of their job. The study was prepared by Values Value founder and InGame Job co-founder Tania Lokotionova based on data from the tenth annual Big Games Industry Employment Survey. The full version of the report is expected in November 2026.

AI has already affected the workflows of 78% of respondents: 33% noted significant changes, and another 45% noted partial changes. Only 22% stated that their work has not changed at all.

At the same time, more than half of developers fear that the use of generative AI could negatively impact the quality of their work, and 46% believe that AI makes it harder to objectively assess the real skills of specialists. Meanwhile, ethical issues concern developers significantly less, with 29% of participants reporting them, while 12% see no reason for concern in AI at all.

Among executives, the situation looks even more telling. 35% of company founders have already refused to hire staff because necessary tasks can, in their opinion, be performed by AI tools. Meanwhile, 48% of founders stated that their companies are currently operating at a loss, and 60% deliberately maintain small teams.

The survey also shows that the industry has not yet reached a consensus regarding the long-term impact of AI on employment. 36% believe that technologies will primarily change existing positions rather than reduce headcounts. 33% expect further reductions in team sizes, while 14% count on growth in individual productivity thanks to AI. Another 17% do not expect staff reductions.

Similar sentiments were previously demonstrated by the annual survey of Gamescom Dev speakers: 83% of participants stated that generative AI will impact team structures or their productivity.
