Singer-songwriter Jackson Browne is grieving the loss of his son, Ethan Browne, who died on November 25, 2025. Ethan was 52 years old.
On November 26, 2025, Browne posted on Facebook to notify fans and the public that his son had been found unresponsive at home the morning of November 25 and was later pronounced dead. In the message he asked for privacy and respect for the family while they process this loss; no additional details were provided at the time.
Born November 2, 1973, Ethan worked across modeling, music and acting. His screen credits include appearances in the films Raising Helen and Hackers and on the television series Birds of Prey. As a musician he collaborated with Cat Colbert in the duo Alain Zane, releasing the 2022 album Right Before Your Eyes and songs such as “CA State of Mind” and “Kite.”
In 1974, when he was an infant, Ethan appeared alongside his father on the cover of Rolling Stone.
Jackson Browne and Phyllis Major married in 1975; Major died in 1976 at age 30. Browne later married Lynne Sweeney in 1981; their son Ryan was born in 1982 and the couple divorced the following year.
Jackson Browne has been recognized repeatedly by the music industry, earning multiple Grammy nominations over his career. His 1977 record Running on Empty received an Album of the Year nomination, and he has since earned nominations in categories including Best Americana Album and Best Rock Vocal Performance, Male. Browne was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2004 (introduced by Bruce Springsteen) and entered the Songwriters Hall of Fame three years later. His albums Hold Out (1980), The Pretender (1976) and Running on Empty (1977) reached high positions on the Billboard 200, and his singles “Doctor My Eyes” (1972) and “Somebody’s Baby” (1982) were top-10 hits — the latter appearing on the Fast Times at Ridgemont High soundtrack.
