Enthusiast Developing Star Wars: KOTOR VR Port — Gameplay Footage Released

As the official Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake remains shrouded in developmental limbo, one dedicated fan has taken matters into their own hands by building a custom VR version of the legendary RPG.

Reddit user BearableBastard recently showcased the latest milestones for an unofficial KOTOR VR port powered by the Unity engine. In its current state, the project already features a fully playable prologue, allowing fans to step directly into the shoes of the protagonist.

According to the developer, the project has seen significant strides in recent months. The primary hurdle continues to be refining NPC animations and ensuring fluid movement without visual artifacts. Nevertheless, the shared footage demonstrates that the core combat mechanics have already been successfully transitioned into a virtual space.

While the 2003 original utilized a tactical, command-based combat system, this VR adaptation introduces real-time lightsaber mechanics. Players can physically swing their blades to strike down foes and manually deflect incoming blaster bolts. Force abilities are also fully integrated; users can select powers through a menu and unleash them using hand gestures—such as physically “pushing” an enemy away.

The official Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake was first announced in 2021 but has since largely vanished from the public eye. Despite the lack of official updates, industry rumors suggest the title is still in active development under the stewardship of Saber Interactive.
