With the World Cup quarterfinals heating up, Ellie Goulding is officially stepping into the spotlight. The British pop sensation announced this Friday that she will headline the halftime entertainment for the highly anticipated clash between England and Norway. Goulding shared her excitement and unwavering support for the national squad via a spirited update on Instagram.
To celebrate the news, the singer posted a series of playful photos donning an England jersey while jumping on her bed. Capturing her enthusiasm, she wrote, “Performing at the FIFA World Cup quarterfinal for England vs Norway has me feeling like truly anything could happen…”
Goulding made no secret of her loyalties, adding, “I already know the boys will make England proud—it’s coming home.”
The two nations are set to face off this Saturday, July 11, at Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium. The victors will push forward in the tournament, which culminates in a massive finale on July 19 at MetLife Stadium. That event promises a historic halftime production curated by Chris Martin, featuring a star-studded lineup including Justin Bieber, BTS, Madonna, and Shakira.
Goulding’s involvement is a natural fit, as she has long been a vocal supporter of the team. During the 2018 tournament, she famously trolled her followers by teasing “new music” only to reveal a lighthearted video of herself belting out the iconic English football anthem, “Three Lions.”
She isn’t the only British star rallying the squad; Ed Sheeran recently made an appearance at the team’s training camp in Kansas City. Showing his support, he noted, “Anyone can win, and I think it’ll be us.”
