Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift Had a Four‑Hour Catch‑Up About Life After He Missed Her Engagement News

Ed Sheeran, who famously keeps a low-tech life and doesn’t regularly use a phone, only learned about his longtime friend Taylor Swift’s engagement to Travis Kelce after her public Instagram announcement. He missed the news in real time and found out alongside the rest of the world.

According to a Nov. 28 interview with Access Hollywood, Sheeran caught up with Swift a short time later — describing their reunion as an extended conversation. “When I saw Taylor, we had like a four-hour catch-up,” he said, explaining how they filled in the missing details face to face.

He added that he isn’t self-conscious about their bond, noting that their friendship easily resumes whenever they meet. “We’ve been friends for many years,” Sheeran said, describing how the pair pick up where they left off and talk about “life stuff” when they get together.

Their history goes back more than a decade: they first collaborated in 2012 on the Red-era duet “Everything Has Changed,” and Sheeran later joined Swift on the Red Tour. The two artists have remained close collaborators and frequent supporters of one another’s work.

Swift has explained that Sheeran’s off-the-grid habits contributed to the delay in telling him personally. Appearing on Jimmy Fallon’s show in October, she noted that his lack of a phone meant he wasn’t receiving the same stream of messages and updates as others.

Swift has also confirmed that Sheeran will be invited to her wedding with Kelce — and suggested he may be difficult to keep off any performance stage at the celebration. On the U.K.’s Hits Radio Breakfast Show in October, she hinted that a spontaneous moment from Sheeran would be hard to resist.
