“In D&D | Star Wars, Tyro Squadron: Adventures, take the fight to the Empire as part of a secret Rebel crew,” the expansion description reads. “Set during the Original Trilogy, these new stories unfold as Luke and Leia fight their own battles across the galaxy. Fly daring missions, explore new corners of the galaxy, and help shape the Rebellion’s story—your way.” The story focuses on scrappy scoundrels battling the Empire rather than Jedi from a more civilized age.

Wizards of the Coast did not offer specifics on the Core Rules book and the mechanical changes required to make blasters and lightsabers work in Dungeons & Dragons, but the company stated that it will reveal more information soon. Both the adventure and the rules expansion release in 2027.

What other D&D collaborations are on the way?

The Star Wars collaboration is the second major Dungeons & Dragons crossover under the Universes Beyond banner, following D&D: World of Warcraft. The World of Warcraft expansion lets players explore beloved zones, delve through familiar dungeons, and face legendary foes from over 20 years of World of Warcraft history. Beyond the sourcebook, the release includes the Icecrown Citadel Map Pack featuring poster-sized maps, tokens, and a digital adventure. The World of Warcraft additions arrive on Nov. 17.

Wizards of the Coast introduced Universes Beyond in 2021 as a crossover brand for Magic: The Gathering, where it proved controversial. Many players dislike Universes Beyond for contributing to the Fortnite-ification of the card game and for fueling an overwhelming number of card releases. Previous crossovers span Warhammer 40,000, Marvel, Final Fantasy, Lord of the Rings, Dungeons & Dragons, and SpongeBob SquarePants. The brand remains lucrative enough for Wizards of the Coast that it will continue.
