Square Enix stewards a portfolio of legendary JRPG franchises that have served as the genre’s foundation for decades. Alongside the global phenomenon of Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest remains one of the company’s crowning achievements, celebrating its 40th anniversary this year.
Although the series has frequently operated in the shadow of its sibling franchise, its commercial performance remains exceptionally robust.
According to the latest data from Square Enix, Dragon Quest XI has officially eclipsed the 9 million units mark, gaining an additional 500,000 copies sold since October 2025.
It was also confirmed that cumulative sales for the entire franchise have now surpassed 95 million copies. Industry analysts expect this figure to approach the 100-million milestone following the highly anticipated release of the Dragon Quest VII remake, scheduled for February 5, 2026.
A breakdown of the most recent official sales figures:
- Dragon Quest XI — 9 million units (up from 8.5 million in October);
- Dragon Quest III HD-2D — 2 million units;
- Lifetime franchise sales — 95 million units.
