Does Clayface Have a Post-Credits Scene? What Viewers Should Know
Clayface is based on a story by horror writer Mike Flanagan and directed by James Watkins. It is the latest entry in James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Universe, which began with Superman in 2025 and has continued somewhat unevenly since. Like 2019’s Joker, it centers on a Batman villain and leaves Batman out of the story.
The film follows actor Matt Hagen (Tom Rhys Harries), an up-and-coming Hollywood star riding a career high after a recent best actor nomination. One night while out partying, he sleeps with the girlfriend of a Gotham City mob boss (David Dencik). The mobster retaliates by slicing up Hagen’s famous face. Surgeries save Hagen’s life but leave him badly disfigured, so he hides behind a plastic mask.
Without his looks, his career collapses. His agency drops him, a lawyer steals his money, and he has to move back to the Narrows of Gotham City, where he grew up and had an unhappy childhood. Then he hears about an experimental treatment created by Dr. Caitlyn Corr (Naomi Ackie) that uses something called nanocells.
At first, the nanocells restore Hagen’s appearance. Soon his face begins to melt and distort again, and he needs more and more of the treatment. He eventually becomes the monstrous Batman villain Clayface, a killer who can take on anyone’s appearance.
Does Clayface have a post-credits scene?

The DC Universe is still in its early stages, so many viewers expect new films to plant seeds for later payoffs.
Marvel did this with almost all of its movies. Early on, those small moments often carried big consequences. At the end of 2008’s Iron Man, for example, Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) recruited Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) for the Avengers. With that history in mind, many people thought Clayface might close with a scene featuring Batman or another well-known Gotham figure.
The DCU hasn’t really worked that way so far. Superman had a minor post-credits scene that was just a joke, and Supergirl had none.
Clayface follows that pattern. It has no post-credits scene at all, so if you’re sitting in the theater, you can get up and leave once the movie ends.
It also means the wait continues before we meet the DC Universe’s new Batman. Hopefully he will someday face off against Tom Rhys Harries’ Clayface.
Clayface arrives in theaters on Oct. 23.
