Disney’s 2025 Halloween Shorts: An Owl House Mini Crossover Reunion and Mickey Mouse Gets a Nightmare Before Christmas Makeover

More than two years after Disney’s inventive animated fantasy The Owl House concluded, and roughly a year since its characters last popped up in the studio’s bite-sized Chibi Tiny Tales, the franchise is back in miniature form. That micro-series reimagines familiar Disney figures as simplified, adorable versions who get into compact, often crossover-friendly skits — past episodes have blended Owl House with Amphibia, Kiff, and even featured characters from Tangled, DuckTales, and Moana.

For Halloween 2025, Disney is revisiting the chibi aesthetic with a new Owl House short that reframes the fearsome Emperor Belos as a rueful, ordinary fellow trying to enjoy a suspiciously green smoothie on a sweltering day—until Helen from Kiff collides with him and spills it. The resulting payoff leans comedic rather than terrifying. The short is available to watch in full and premieres on Disney Channel on September 29, 2025.

This year’s spooky slate also expands Disney’s stop-motion Halloween collection that began last year under the banner Mickey’s Spooky Stories, itself a spin-off of the 2023 stop-motion special Mickey and Friends: Trick or Treats. The stop-motion shorts are produced by Stoopid Buddy Stoodios (the team behind Robot Chicken) with David H. Brooks of The Simpsons serving as director and producer.

Where the 2024 entries were compact narrative vignettes of Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy and Goofy swapping creepy-cute tales, the 2025 installments—collectively titled Mickey and Minnie’s Holiday Songs: Halloween—are music-video-style shorts set to jaunty covers and remixes.

In an exclusive short provided to Polygon, Mickey and friends take a haunted hayride to a creaky mansion while a cover of “This Is Halloween” (from Tim Burton and Henry Selick’s stop-motion classic The Nightmare Before Christmas) plays. The sequence is playful rather than menacing, and it delivers a warm, unexpected twist at the end. The characters’ trick-or-treat outfits are largely the same ones fans have seen in recent years—Minnie’s tarantula costume, in particular, seems to get cuter and fuzzier every season.

Two additional stop-motion music shorts will pair Mickey and his costumed companions with sing-along remixes of “Hot Dog!” and “Monster Boogie” from Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. These shorts are scheduled to air on Disney Junior on September 29, 2025, arrive on Disney+ on October 2, 2025, and the tracks will be released by Walt Disney Records on October 3, 2025. Fair warning: the “Hot Dog!” remix is an infectious earworm—fun, but persistently catchy in the way only a great kids’ tune can be.
