Disney has identified the revitalization of the “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise as a top strategic priority.
Disney is moving full steam ahead with plans to resurrect the “Pirates of the Caribbean” series, positioning it as a flagship project for the coming years. This update comes from industry insider Jeff Sneider, citing internal studio sources.
According to reports, the studio is currently in negotiations with Krysty Wilson-Cairns—the Oscar-nominated screenwriter behind the acclaimed war drama “1917.” She is tipped to helm the script for the franchise’s sixth installment.
The narrative reportedly pivots around the son of Jack Sparrow and a new female lead, a role rumored to be reserved for Margot Robbie. Although Robbie was previously attached to a separate spin-off project, Disney has seemingly shifted gears to integrate her character into the main cinematic timeline. The new protagonist is described as a compelling blend of Jack Sparrow’s unpredictable charm and the sharp edge of Emma Stone’s Cruella de Vil.
The involvement of Johnny Depp remains the biggest lingering question. While whispers surfaced last year suggesting the studio might consider him for a supporting role to bridge the transition, no official confirmation regarding his return to the deck has been provided.
Though an official announcement for “Pirates of the Caribbean 6” has yet to be made, all indicators suggest Disney is fully committed to steering the franchise into a new era with a fresh ensemble of swashbucklers.
