The upcoming sequel to the film adaptation “Five Nights at Freddy’s” promises to subject the animatronics to something the franchise has never attempted before.

Director Emma Tammi, who returned to lead production on Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, revealed at Blumfest during New York Comic-Con 2025 that the sequel will, for the first time, remove the murderous animatronics from their customary confined setting and place them directly into the real world.

Seeing them among everyday people is at once absurd and deeply unsettling — exactly the reaction we set out to provoke.

According to the director, relocating the action will invigorate the film and allow the characters to be explored from fresh angles while preserving the blend of terror and black comedy. The sequel will be broader in scope and more kinetic than its predecessor, focusing on the collision between nightmare and the ordinary.

The worldwide premiere of Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 is scheduled for December 5, 2025. Universal is hoping to mirror the original’s success, which grossed over $270 million on a modest $20 million budget.
