Punjabi icon Diljit Dosanjh has joined forces with pop powerhouse Sia and legendary EDM producer David Guetta for a massive international collaboration titled “Ranjha.”
An exclusive preview of the single was unveiled on Tuesday (March 10) in an unconventional setting: a classroom at Toronto Metropolitan University. Students enrolled in a specialized course dedicated to Dosanjh’s career were the first to hear a snippet of the track before its official worldwide debut this Friday (March 13).
The lecture hall was filled with excitement as the students—who have spent the semester analyzing Dosanjh’s cultural footprint—became the global premiere audience for their subject’s latest musical venture.
“This is a monumental milestone,” remarked Richard Trapunski, guest lecturer and national editor of Billboard Canada. “As the first-ever academic course focused entirely on a Punjabi artist, it felt only right that these students were given the privilege of hearing this international collaboration first. It’s a fitting reward for their deep dive into his impact.”
Released via Warner Music India, “Ranjha” masterfully bridges three distinct musical worlds. The track pairs soulful Punjabi lyricism with high-octane electronic production and Sia’s unmistakable pop vocals, illustrating the increasing synergy between South Asian sounds and mainstream global dance culture.
This isn’t the first time Dosanjh and Sia have combined their talents. Their 2023 hit “Hass Hass” was a breakout success, securing a spot on the Billboard Canadian Hot 100. “Ranjha” aims to build on that momentum, scaling even greater heights.
“This record retains its Punjabi heart while speaking to a global audience,” Dosanjh told Billboard Canada. “Reuniting with Sia felt completely organic, and David Guetta’s energy pushed the sound into a new dimension. It’s a track designed to make you move while still feeling the emotion.”
David Guetta expressed his enthusiasm for the cross-cultural project, stating: “I’m always drawn to the fusion of different musical textures. This track has a perfect blend of melody, rhythm, and attitude. Working with Diljit and Sia was an incredible experience; we wanted to create something that feels immediate and infectious.”
The upcoming release marks another chapter in Dosanjh’s rapid global expansion. From historic performances at Coachella and The Tonight Show to sold-out stadium tours across North America, he continues to redefine the reach of Punjabi music.
The TMU course, titled “The Music & Influence of Diljit Dosanjh,” explores the singer’s evolution into a global brand and his role at the intersection of cultural identity and music entrepreneurship. Following the listening session, students engaged in a discussion about how the new single fits into the themes of global representation they’ve studied all term.
“His journey is about much more than commercial stats; it represents cultural pride and creative sovereignty for the South Asian community,” said Dosanjh’s manager, Sonali Singh. “To see his legacy formally recognized in an academic setting is a powerful and long-overdue moment.”
