Dermot Mulroney Exits Chicago Fire

Network procedural dramas feature constant shocking finales, epic crossovers, and cast changes. The “One Chicago” franchise has remained of NBC’s programming lineup since 2012 through shows like Chicago Fire, Chicago P.D., and Chicago Med. Fans have grown to love many compelling characters across the three Dick Wolf shows over the years, but viewers now need to say goodbye to a major figure.

Dermot Mulroney, who portrayed Battalion Chief Dom Pascal on Chicago Fire, has officially left the series. Pascal’s final appearance occurred in the Season 15 premiere episode titled “New Blood”, which aired on Wednesday, October 7th. Mulroney joined Chicago Fire in Season 13, and his extensive filmography also features My Best Friend’s Wedding, The Family Stone, and Secret Invasion.

The writers removed Pascal from Chicago Fire following his storyline in Season 14. Pascal faced charges after disobeying orders from a federal agent by entering a dangerous house fire to gather evidence for a case. Although authorities ultimately dropped the charges, Pascal lost his job. He received an offer to join a firehouse in Phoenix, Arizona, and he departed Firehouse 51 after sharing advice with Kelly Severide, played by Taylor Kinney.

Pascal’s departure leaves an opening for Mulroney to return in the future, but the actor expressed disappointment regarding his exit. During a panel at Chicago’s Flashback Weekend in August, Mulroney told attendees, “I love every minute. Sad to see it go.”

Mulroney is not the only cast member leaving Chicago Fire, as Joe Miñoso and his character Joe Cruz will depart later this season. Cruz has appeared in the “One Chicago” universe since its inception, starring on Chicago Fire and making guest appearances across eight episodes of Chicago P.D. and Chicago Med.

Following these departures, the main cast of Chicago Fire includes Kinney as Kelly Severide, David Eigenberg as Christopher Herrmann, Christian Stolte as Randall “Mouch” McHolland, Miranda Rae Mayo as Stella Kidd, Hanako Greensmith as Violet Mikami, Jocelyn Hudon as Lizzie Novak, Brandon Larracuente as Sal Vasquez, and Da’Vinchi as Marcus Burke.
