The film is making history as the first anime feature to be presented in a massive 1.43:1 IMAX aspect ratio in Japan. Despite its initial release last summer, this prestigious theatrical return suggests that fans may have a significant wait ahead before the movie makes its debut on digital storefronts or streaming platforms.

The film’s historical IMAX engagement is currently scheduled for a one-day special event on February 6. The continued enthusiasm for the big-screen experience implies there is little urgency to move the production to home media while audiences are still eager to fill cinemas. To further the excitement, the official Demon Slayer website recently announced “cheering screenings” across ten major Japanese theaters on January 24, where enthusiasts are encouraged to don cosplay and vocally support their favorite heroes and villains.

For comparison, Mugen Train took a full eight months to move from Japanese theaters to Crunchyroll’s library.
