Shawn Levy, the creative force behind Deadpool & Wolverine and Stranger Things, has been tapped to direct a new science fiction feature titled Somewhere Out There, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
The project will be distributed by Netflix. Industry insiders have drawn thematic parallels between this upcoming film and Denis Villeneuve’s Arrival, as well as Levy’s own The Adam Project. The narrative follows a grieving father who sends a signal into the cosmos following his wife’s passing, only to receive an unexpected reply. The screenplay was penned by Max Taxe (Lift).
A definitive release date for Somewhere Out There has yet to be announced. Levy recently wrapped production on a new Star Wars spin-off starring Ryan Gosling, which is slated for theatrical release in May 2027.
