Deadpool Star Ed Skrein Cast as Baldur in God of War Series

The ensemble for the live-action God of War series continues to take shape with a major new addition.

Amazon MGM Studios has officially announced the actor who will portray Baldur in the upcoming Prime Video adaptation. Taking on the role of the formidable antagonist is Ed Skrein, the British actor recognized for his performances in Deadpool, Rebel Moon, and the upcoming Jurassic World Rebirth.

According to the official character breakdown, Baldur is the youngest son of Odin and the All-Father’s most lethal asset. Charismatic yet volatile, he is a rogue element who follows no rules but his own. Cursed in his youth to be devoid of all physical sensation, Baldur can feel neither agony nor ecstasy. This sensory void fuels a deep-seated resentment and a desperate obsession with finding a challenger capable of making him feel anything at all.

The series is set to adapt the acclaimed Norse saga of the franchise, specifically drawing from God of War (2018) and God of War: Ragnarök. The narrative centers on Kratos and his young son, Atreus, as they embark on a perilous trek to the highest peak in the Nine Realms to scatter the ashes of Kratos’ late wife, Faye.

Ed Skrein joins an impressive roster that already features Ryan Hurst as Kratos, Mandy Patinkin as Odin, Max Parker as Heimdall, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Thor, and Alastair Duncan as Mimir, among others.

Ronald D. Moore, the visionary behind Battlestar Galactica, is leading the project as showrunner, with Frederick E.O. Toye attached to direct the initial episodes. While a premiere date has yet to be revealed, the series has already secured a two-season commitment. The production is being spearheaded by Amazon MGM Studios in partnership with Sony Pictures Television and PlayStation Productions.
