6 Best Upcoming Steam Games Worth Adding to Your Wishlist

Comment Views: 1

While the gaming world holds its breath for Grand Theft Auto 6, indie studios are seizing October to show off their upcoming projects while they still have some room to breathe. Last week’s Wishlister covered standouts from the Triple-i Initiative showcase. This week, we’re stepping back to pick out a few treasures from LudoNarraCon.

LudoNarraCon is an annual celebration of story-focused games, hosted by Fellow Traveller, the publisher behind Penguin Colony. This year’s lineup offered fresh glimpses of many upcoming titles, along with a handful of free demos. Nearly everything on display deserves a look, but these six belong at the top of your Steam wishlist.

A recent delay has bumped At Fate’s End out of this year, which makes it the indie we’re most eager for in 2027. It’s the newest release from Thunder Lotus, the studio behind Spiritfarer. This genre-bending Metroidvania throws you into a bitter conflict between feuding relatives. Tense combat blends with story-driven puzzles, and the result is shaping up to be something truly distinctive.

The developers bill it as a “time-looping puzzle ballad,” and The Marvelous Raincaster of Yell Holler transforms folklore into a feast for the eyes. You take on the role of a folklorist piecing together a town’s legends about a rooster that can change the weather. It’s tricky to explain, but a free demo means you can see for yourself.

This week’s focus is narrative-driven indies, but many of them are visual showstoppers too. I Shall Name the Dead is a lyrical work of interactive fiction about speaking with the departed. What really won us over, though, is its gorgeous hand-drawn artwork, painted in a bold palette of blue and orange.

Work Work Work is a psychological horror game set inside a tech company. That premise may hit a little too close to home, but there’s a compelling reason to keep it on your radar. It comes from the creators of the superb A Space for the Unbound. Mojiken has long been a master of the adventure genre, and this looks like the studio’s most captivating project yet.
