Dead by Daylight Fans Uninstall the Game in Protest
Some Dead by Daylight players have voiced frustration with developer Behaviour Interactive after a team member gifted in-game content to controversial streamer TheBurntPeanut. In response, several players say they have uninstalled the game or requested refunds.
During TheBurntPeanut’s Halloween livestream, a Behaviour Interactive employee sent the VTuber all of the game’s available paid downloadable content. The gesture drew criticism from viewers who objected to the streamer receiving support from the studio.
Dead by Daylight is a multiplayer survival game in which one player takes on the role of a killer pursuing a group of survivors. Its roster includes original characters alongside familiar figures from horror franchises. TheBurntPeanut was among the players streaming the game over Halloween weekend when the expansions appeared in his inbox.
After seeing the negative reaction, the streamer offered to return the content. The employee replied, “We can take the heat! They are yours to keep.” For some fans, the response made the situation worse, as they felt it dismissed their concerns.
Critics also pointed to creators who have spent considerable time waiting for approval to join the game’s Creator Program. Some argued that controversial streamers were receiving opportunities and support while other applicants remained in limbo.
Among those who spoke out was content creator ShinichiKaiVT, who said they would stop playing after spending thousands of hours with the game. Other longtime players also shared their disappointment and announced that they had uninstalled it.
Dead by Daylight team apologizes
Following the backlash, the official Dead by Daylight account said the employee’s decision had been made without the proper approval. The team added that the employee’s comments and conduct did not reflect Behaviour Interactive’s values.
The studio apologized to the community and said it would review its internal processes to help prevent similar incidents.
TheBurntPeanut later addressed the controversy during a Minecraft stream, denying the accusations made against him. Whether he returns to Dead by Daylight remains uncertain, but some players say the incident has already affected their trust in the game’s developer.
