Dan Trachtenberg Explains Why Arnold Schwarzenegger Only Appeared in “Predator: Killer of Killers” After Release

Director Dan Trachtenberg released an expanded cut of the film «Predator: Killer of Killers» two weeks after its premiere, restoring a sequence that includes characters from the original movies.

Trachtenberg augmented the finale of the animated feature «Predator: Killer of Killers» with a scene showcasing two cult icons of the franchise — the legendary Major Alan “Dutch” Schaefer (Arnold Schwarzenegger) and Detective Mike Harrigan (Danny Glover), who appear in the first two Predator films.

According to Trachtenberg, the sequence was part of the final edit but was cut before release due to unresolved legal issues. The expanded edition that appeared two weeks later reinstated the scene.

The cameos by Schwarzenegger and Glover transformed the ending into a de facto convergence of the series, visually linking the original «Predator», «Predator 2» and «Prey» into a single continuity for the first time.

Trachtenberg declined to say whether this signals Schwarzenegger’s return in future installments, but admitted that the opportunity to bring heroes from different eras “into one frame” felt too powerful to pass up.

“I don’t know what comes next. But the door is open now.”

The next entry in the franchise is titled «Predator: Planet of Death». The film follows the perilous journey of a young Yautja named Dek and the synthetic Tii, who will be played by Elle Fanning. Its release is scheduled for November 7, 2025.
