Curiosity Wakes: Update 03 Now Live

Greetings, Caretakers! The Curiosity Wakes update is officially available for all Early Access participants. This milestone significantly advances your mission: orbital communication is finally established, lethal new adversaries emerge from the depths, and for the first time, you can deploy autonomous support units to aid your journey.

Experience the Update 03 trailer:

Major Highlights
  • Orbital Contact: The introduction of the Council of Humanity and its committee system allows launched pioneers to take their seats and execute strategic actions through dedicated terminals.

  • Lethal Adversaries: Prepare to face Ram Sharks, Laser Sharks, and ArchAngels. Enemy AI has been overhauled to ensure more tactical spawning and deliberate combat behavior.

  • Narrative Expansion: Discover a wealth of new story content through fresh quests and uncharted locations.

  • Support Companions: You no longer have to face the tides alone. Unlock tactical support via the Sweetheart grenade, craftable Sweetheart items, and a friendly new swarm variant.

  • Optimization & Stability: This update features an extensive CPU/GPU performance pass, systemic balancing, and a comprehensive list of resolutions for issues involving saves, cabling, swarms, and modular components.

Expanded Features

Curiosity Wakes enriches the world with updated gameplay loops within the Council of Humanity, Rollerboi Factory, and Shark Containment facilities. New utility systems have been introduced, including Dehumidifiers, CO₂ storage units, Boat Stabilizers, Farming Bed V2, and buildable Mooring Sockets. Customization options have also grown, with rare ores and pigments now available to craft unique Caretaker paint aesthetics.

On the technical side, we have refined underwater locomotion and swimming, climbing mechanics on rocky terrain, and vehicle handling. We’ve also sharpened UI feedback, audio-visual responses, and general clarity across the board. Players on lower-end hardware should notice performance gains of up to 10%.

Technical Resolutions

This update addresses a wide array of legacy issues, such as:

  • Inventory item deletion during transfers when capacity is reached

  • Mismatched or corrupted save files when using the Continue option

  • Recycler calculation errors regarding remaining materials

  • Persistence issues for anchors, moving walls, and drawbridges after reloading

  • Buoyancy inconsistencies with storage containers

  • Stack transfer limits being bypassed

  • Malfunctioning doors and proximity sensors

  • Shark spawning glitches and special attack interruptions

  • Reliability of Mooring Sockets

  • Miniroller pathfinding and stair navigation

  • Interaction bugs with maze and ladder doors

  • Visual artifacts involving underwater brightness and depth-of-field

  • Various stability crashes related to cables, swarms, and module updates
