Update 5.0: New Horizons Is Now Live

Caretakers,

Update 5.0: New Horizons has officially arrived for The Last Caretaker.

While this is a substantial update, the real significance lies in how the world now intertwines.

The humans you launch into the void no longer vanish into a static victory screen. The Committees awaken, their influence cascading back down to Earth. Project Eden stirs to life; vegetation begins to reclaim the landscape, and the once-drowned world finally mirrors the progress of your mission.

You exert the effort.

The world responds.

A DEEPER DIVE FOR CARETAKERS

PROJECT EDEN BEGINS

Project Eden represents the inaugural phase of planetary revival. Previously, your duties focused solely on securing human genetic potential and ensuring successful orbital launches. Now, the mission transcends pure survival.

As your committee initiatives gain traction, the physical world begins to blossom. Restoration is no longer buried within buried terminal logs—it manifests in the environment. Forests sprout as a testament to your success, proving that survival was merely the foundation; restoration is the ultimate objective.

THE COMMITTEES AWAKEN

The Committees now serve as a vital engine for human development. Orbital inhabitants now coordinate on long-term initiatives that feed directly back into Project Eden.

  • Your launches now serve a greater purpose beyond the initial ascent.

  • A human sent to orbit is a catalyst for future progress, not just a completed statistic.

  • They are integral to the next era of Earth.

PROJECT JONAH SURFACES

Something colossal stirs beneath the waves. Project Jonah brings a fresh narrative arc, complete with a unique whale encounter, mysterious lore, distinct rewards, and a dedicated location.

Jonah is a relic of bygone ingenuity—where biology was repurposed into infrastructure and instinct was commodified by a desperate civilization. The beast answers when beckoned; proceed with caution.

CULTURAL MEMORIES

Rebuilding humanity without its history is hollow engineering. New Horizons enriches the world’s narrative via Cultural Memories, HoloMemories, and historical artifacts recovered with the Photodrone.

These remnants prove that humanity once held stories, grief, faith, and purpose. In The Last Caretaker, culture is not mere window dressing—it is the very reason we persevere.

RESEARCH OUTPOST THETA-9

We are unveiling Research Outpost Theta-9, a sub-surface facility designed to scrutinize the enigmatic Roth’s Anomaly. Expect a challenging exploration of flooded corridors and abandoned records, detailing the lengths to which humanity went when chasing results at any cost.

This update also introduces the “Make an Oath” content and systemic balancing across existing levels.

EXPANDED UTILITIES

New Horizons introduces a suite of tools designed to deepen your engagement with the world:

  • The Rhino Dismantler: A high-octane tool for rapid, messy salvage.

  • Recovery Grinder: Enhanced material recycling capabilities.

  • TideRipper™ Hand Jets: New aquatic mobility.

  • PECO Grid Scan 2000: Visualize complex system connectivity.

  • Data Recovery Deck: Enjoy modular music playback while you work.

  • Wall Transfer Sockets: Streamline your base logistics with wall-passing resource conduits.

THE VESSEL EVOLVES

We have added the first boat extension: the Gyro Deck. Building upon the aerial insights of Update 4, this deck turns your mobile base into a legitimate workstation, transforming your vessel from a mere transport craft into a fully-fledged hub for your tools, vehicles, and precious cargo.

DYNAMIC SEAS AND OPTIMIZATION

The ocean has been overhauled with a new wave system, making the waters feel more volatile and immersive. Under the surface, we’ve pushed hard on memory optimization, stability, UI responsiveness, and physics—ensuring that your save files remain secure even as the world grows more complex.

Early Access relies on the integrity of the small things: a smooth level transition or a save file that persists through the chaos. We are committed to these fundamentals and encourage you to report any anomalies you encounter.

UPDATED DEMO

The free demo has been refreshed to better represent the current state of Early Access. If you have been waiting to dive into The Last Caretaker, there has never been a better time to begin your journey.
