Crunchyroll Reveals Title and Plot Details for The Apothecary Diaries Anime Film

The feature-length anime film based on The Apothecary Diaries is titled The Apothecary Diaries: Treasure of the Late Consort.

Along with the title, a detailed synopsis was revealed, outlining the setup for the new adventure featuring Maomao and Lishu.

According to the plot, the Emperor orders Lishu to fulfill the final wish of a consort who died five years ago by transporting her remains back to her homeland. However, inspecting the body reveals a strange detail: the woman’s remains are remarkably well preserved, as if she died very recently:

“To solve the mystery of the remains, Lishu takes Maomao with him on a journey to Binan, a southern province governed by the Bi clan. They arrive in a bustling water city. Maomao is excited at the chance to encounter herbs and medicines she has never seen before, but the atmosphere in the province is tense as pirates desperately search for a treasure hidden by their late leader. ‘I hope nothing happens…’ Lishu’s premonition comes true. On the day of the consort’s funeral, a major incident occurs, setting off a chain of events that no one could have foreseen.”

Original light novel author Natsu Hyuga created the story for the film. Norihiro Naganuma serves as the director, and TOHO Animation STUDIO handles production. Treasure of the Late Consort will release in Japanese theaters on December 11, 2026, while a global release date remains unannounced.
