Creating an Emulator for the Switch 2 Will Take About 10 Years

Unlike the original Nintendo Switch—whose emulators Yuzu and Ryujinx appeared roughly a year after launch—we shouldn’t expect comparable solutions for the Switch 2 anytime soon, unless piracy around the Switch 2 accelerates dramatically, which currently seems unlikely.

Two Switch 2 emulators in development, Oboromi and Pound, have updated their GitHub pages and emphasized that the projects remain far from finished. Pound’s repository, labeled an “early-stage emulator,” even warns that “the project will take at least ten years!”

The creator of Oboromi says they are “building the foundation of a Switch 2 emulator,” but notes that running the console’s ROMs is not yet possible. Ten years may be an overstatement, yet given how fiercely Nintendo defended against emulation on the original Switch, it’s unsurprising that piracy-driven efforts haven’t made major headway so far.

In short, there is still no functional Switch 2 emulator, and one is unlikely to appear in the near future.
