Clair Obscur’s musical score was overlooked in the nominations.
Many players who tried Clair Obscur Expedition 33 praised its soundtrack, and some even expected the OST to be in contention for a Grammy. However, the recently revealed nominee list left the game’s fans disappointed.
The selection included a mix of DLC, a major live-service title, and several recent releases:
- Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora — Secrets of the Spires
- Helldivers 2
- Indiana Jones And The Great Circle
- Star Wars Outlaws : Wild Card & A Pirate’s Fortune
- Sword of the Sea
Journalists pointed out that Clair Obscur’s publisher, Kepler Interactive, submitted the game for consideration in two categories: “Best Score Soundtrack for Video Games” and “Best Song Written for Visual Media.”
It’s unclear why Clair Obscur Expedition 33 did not make the nominee list. Some players speculate it might be related to the composer’s origin — he is French.
EternityTheory highlighted a notable feature of the nominees:
My first thought was, “That can’t apply here because Helldivers and Arrowhead are Swedish.” But I checked, and the Helldivers 2 composer is American, as are the other nominated composers. The only possible exception is Toprak — a Turkish-American who has lived in Los Angeles for over 20 years — so he is American as well.
