Charlie Hunnam gave an extensive interview detailing his preparation to portray murderer Ed Gein in the series “Monster: The Story of Ed Gein.” To accurately capture the criminal’s appearance, Hunnam dropped 13 kg in order to reflect Gein’s thin, nearly emaciated frame.
At the New York premiere, Hunnam explained that the writing team aimed to explore more than the killer’s crimes — they also focused on his troubled relationship with his mother.
The actor added that, despite the difficult subject matter, working on the series was not emotionally exhausting for him; on the contrary, it was a creatively rewarding process.
“Monster: The Story of Ed Gein” premiered on Netflix on October 3.
