Charli XCX Joins Martin Scorsese, Marc Jacobs, and John Cale for Alternate ‘Music, Fashion, Film’ Cover

Fans were initially perplexed when Charli XCX unveiled the cover art for her upcoming project, Music, Fashion, Film, as the image featured a trio of industry legends rather than the singer herself. However, she has now delighted her following by releasing a special edition of the artwork that places her right alongside her personal icons.

“The special edition of Music, Fashion, Film is officially here,” the artist shared on social media, accompanied by the updated visual. “I still can’t wrap my head around the fact that this image exists.”

The revised cover maintains the atmosphere of the original, which captured John Cale, Marc Jacobs, and Martin Scorsese in a stark, minimalist kitchen. In this iteration, Charli joins the ensemble, mirroring their stoic posture and enigmatic expressions while dressed in a coordinating all-black ensemble.

The selection of these three figures isn’t arbitrary; each represents the thematic pillars of the album’s title. In a recent conversation with Nicky Reardon, the British star clarified that while these individuals aren’t necessarily “the trinity,” they hold profound personal significance to her creative journey. She emphasized that for her, there are countless ways to interpret the imagery surrounding this record.

The collaboration between Charli and Velvet Underground pioneer John Cale—who worked together on the Wuthering Heights soundtrack—was a serendipitous affair. Cale remarked to Rolling Stone that the experience was surreal, noting that he was whisked away to a random kitchen to participate in the shoot without having met the other subjects beforehand.

“I’m genuinely honored to know him,” Charli reflected. “It’s one of those moments where you just have to ask, ‘How is this even happening?’”

Music, Fashion, Film is slated for release on July 24, following the massive critical success of her Grammy-winning 2024 album, Brat. With the tracklist now public—featuring a surprise appearance by director David Cronenberg—anticipation is reaching a fever pitch.
