NBA icon Charles Barkley has candidly shared why he turned down an invitation to the highly anticipated, star-studded wedding of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce.

Given the massive turnout of elite athletes and broadcast personalities at the July 3 ceremony held at Madison Square Garden, Barkley would have certainly fit the bill. However, despite a brief acquaintance with Swift, the basketball legend opted to stay away.

During a conversation on the Unfiltered With Ricky Bo & Bill Colarulo podcast this past Tuesday (July 7), Barkley explained his decision-making process. “I generally avoid weddings and funerals,” he admitted. “While I did receive an invite and appreciated the gesture, I politely declined because I had a feeling the event would be a massive spectacle. I have a lot of love for Travis and Jason, and while I’ve only met Taylor once, the invitation was truly special.”

The 63-year-old sports analyst confessed that he preferred a low-key schedule, favoring a day on the golf course over the formality of a celebrity gala. “It felt like a bit too much for me,” he added. “I’d much rather just relax and play some golf than deal with the formalities and dressing up.”

Barkley was not the only notable figure to miss the celebration; Ryan Seacrest also shared that his attendance plans were derailed by a professional commitment to host the America 250 festivities for Disney on July 4.

The lavish affair reportedly hosted over 1,000 guests, including heavy hitters like Paul McCartney, Tom Brady, Jennifer Lopez, Brad Pitt, and Selena Gomez. The ceremony was officiated by Adam Sandler, with surprise musical performances by Stevie Nicks and Paul McCartney rounding out the reception.
