Bring Me the Horizon’s Oliver Sykes Suffers Mild Concussion After Fan Throws Phone at Him

If you’re in the habit of launching your personal belongings toward performers, you might want to rethink that strategy.

Oliver Sykes, the frontman of the chart-topping British rock powerhouse Bring Me the Horizon, sustained a mild concussion after a concertgoer hurled a mobile phone at him during the band’s live performance in St. Louis this past Monday.

Video captured by audience members shows the moment the device strikes Sykes in the head while he was in the middle of performing “Happy Song,” a track from their 2015 record, That’s the Spirit.

Visibly shaken and frustrated, Sykes immediately shouted, “Who the f— just threw a phone at my f—ing head?” before hurling the device back into the crowd. Later footage captures the singer inspecting his head for injuries. Throughout the subsequent performance of “Can You Feel My Heart,” he was seen pausing periodically, visibly distressed while rubbing his temples and forehead.

On Tuesday (May 12), Sykes addressed the incident directly via his Instagram Story to provide an update to concerned fans.

“Alright everyone—just wanted to let you know I’m all good,” Sykes reassured his followers. “Getting hit in the head with a phone definitely wasn’t pleasant; it resulted in a mild concussion, though the swelling has already begun to subside significantly.”

The frontman also offered an apology for any perceived drop in energy during the remainder of the show.

“I was struggling a bit on stage last night because singing was putting intense pressure on the wound, which made things feel quite disorienting,” he explained. “I sincerely apologize if it felt like my performance was anything less than full-hearted.”

Sykes concluded the update with a positive note for those attending the band’s show in Kansas City later that evening, confirming that he expects to be back at full strength for the performance.
