British actor Jonathan Bailey, known for his roles in Bridgerton and Jurassic World, is set to star in the upcoming sports thriller Pumping Black, according to reports. He will be joined on screen by Natalie Portman.
The film follows an aging professional cyclist (Bailey) who collaborates with his doctor on an intense and perilous training regimen in preparation for the Tour de France. Driven by an obsessive desire to win at any cost, the protagonist finds himself increasingly consumed by paranoia.
The project will be helmed by director Mimi Cave (Fresh). Insiders have drawn comparisons to Damien Chazelle’s Whiplash and Darren Aronofsky’s Black Swan—the latter of which earned Portman an Academy Award. Production for Pumping Black is scheduled to begin this autumn.
