Brad Pitt to Return for World War Z Sequel
Paramount Pictures has officially greenlit a follow-up to the hit zombie thriller World War Z, with Brad Pitt set to reprise his lead role.
The director’s chair will be occupied by Edward Berger, known for his work on Conclave and All Quiet on the Western Front. The screenplay was penned by Dennis Kelly, the creator of the cult series Utopia. Specific plot details and a release date have yet to be disclosed.
The original World War Z premiered in 2013, amassing $540 million at the global box office. Inspired by Max Brooks’ acclaimed novel, the story followed a UN investigator (Pitt) and his family as they fought to survive the onset of a global zombie pandemic. Development of a sequel had been in the works for quite some time with David Fincher originally attached, though he ultimately stepped away from the project.
