The Blood of Dawnwalker Update 1.1 brings quality-of-life improvements, performance gains, and pettable animals

The Blood of Dawnwalker has been one of the standout releases of the year, but its launch was undeniably rough around the edges. Rebel Wolves only committed to prioritizing higher framerates on consoles after a wave of player feedback. Even then, the game still stumbled at times on my PlayStation 5. The first major update arrives today. It aims to iron out many of those performance problems and adds a handful of welcome quality-of-life features.

The trailer above focuses on combat refinements, including sharper targeting, polished animations, and a camera that feels far less restrictive. Wolves and boars, which stayed stubbornly durable even deep into the campaign, now have less health. Breaking away from a fight should also be simpler when you’d rather not stick around. Casual players get a revamped difficulty structure. The old “Story” mode is now called “Forgiving,” and the new “Story” mode layers on extra combat assists.

Several additions reach beyond combat as well. A new Draught of Mind Rebirth potion lets you respec your skill tree. It refunds the time and skill points you’ve invested so you can rebuild your character from scratch. Subtitles can now be enlarged, an option I’m always grateful to see. You can also pet dogs and cats. Shadowstep and Planeshift have been made more responsive too. I’m hoping that means I’ll land on rooftops instead of the wall just beneath them.
