Blizzard Restricts Real-Money Traders From WoW: Forever Economy

Developers have turned their attention to shadow entrepreneurs.

The main World of Warcraft and Classic titles have long served as massive platforms for various entrepreneurs providing services or engaging in real-money trade. These individuals have already made their way into World of Warcraft: Forever, and developers have now started cracking down on the black market in this segment as well.

Blizzard Entertainment recently published an announcement warning that it has begun stripping World of Warcraft: Forever players of access to the economy for participating in real-money trading, with some users already facing penalties:

Some players have already encountered our new tool in the fight against real-money trading (RMT), also known as “gold buying.” If your account is suspected of involvement in RMT—whether selling or profiting illicitly—it may temporarily have its access to the economy restricted. While this penalty is active, your access to trading, mail, guild banks, and the auction house will be restricted.

The developers of World of Warcraft: Forever specified that this is a new system, meaning there is a risk of false positives:

If you simply play normally, the probability of this restriction affecting your account is extremely low. If a restriction is applied, it will either be lifted automatically after an investigation of the actions that triggered it determines them to be false, or measures will be taken against your account if involvement in RMT is genuinely confirmed.

The release of World of Warcraft: Forever is scheduled for November 5, 2026.
