Take-Two CEO Expressed Shock Over GTA VI Delay
The developers were allowed to spend extra time realizing their vision.
The developers of Grand Theft Auto VI revised the release date multiple times. During a recent interview with Bloomberg, Rockstar Games publishing head Jennifer Kolbe discussed the Take-Two boss’s reaction to the game’s delay.
Strauss Zelnick was unpleasantly surprised by the news of another postponement. Grand Theft Auto VI was originally intended for release last year, but the launch was subsequently moved to May 2026. A few months later, Jennifer had to speak with Zelnick about another GTA VI delay, shifting the release date to November of this year.
It was this final delay that elicited such a reaction from Strauss Zelnick. According to Jennifer Kolbe, his response at the time was along the lines of, “You’ve got to be kidding me. Please tell me you’re joking.”

However, Jennifer explains that once they discussed the reasons behind the Grand Theft Auto VI release date delay, he understood everything:
Once we discussed why [the delay was necessary], he understood everything. And I think we are very fortunate that he is such a reasonable person, because many people would have told us, “You’d better figure out a way to release the game [on time].” We are lucky that we didn’t end up in that situation, because that happens to many teams, and we have all played games like that. It’s not cool.
Grand Theft Auto VI is now scheduled for release on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles.
