Blade Runner 2099 Trailer Teases Replicant Conspiracy at New York Comic Con

At New York Comic Con, Prime Video premiered a new trailer for Blade Runner 2099 ahead of its release next month. The footage offers a deeper look at one of the show central mysteries and the relationship between Hunter Schafer character Cora and Michelle Yeoh character Olwen.

What did the Blade Runner 2099 New York Comic Con trailer show?

The trailer centers on a core mystery involving 38 replicants who went missing over the previous year. That disappearance forces the paths of Cora, a fugitive on the run, and Olwen, a near-death Replicant, to cross. They uncover a conspiracy connected to a criminal gang of replicants who reject the idea that replicants should try to act human.

Speaking to Polygon in September, showrunner Silka Luisa described Blade Runner 2099 as “Chinatown set in the world of Blade Runner. It’s really about Cora and Olwin investigating missing people, just like they do in the films.” The new trailer confirms that the series continues the franchise tradition of combining thoughtful science fiction mystery with existential themes about artificial intelligence, humanity, and intimacy.

Prime Video also published a poster featuring the tagline, “Welcome to a future we no longer control.” The slogan points to a Los Angeles dominated by Replicants rather than humans by the year 2099, a setting explored further in the new trailer.

All eight episodes of Blade Runner 2099 debut on Prime Video on Nov. 25.

A second season has not been announced, and Luisa told Polygon that the eight episodes form “a complete story within itself.” Viewers looking to revisit the franchise before November can stream Blade Runner: The Final Cut and Blade Runner 2049 on Prime Video.
