While Mega Man: Dual Override marks the highly anticipated return of Capcom’s legendary mascot, the hero will sound notably different when he arrives. Ben Diskin, the voice actor who portrayed the Blue Bomber in 2018’s Mega Man 11, has confirmed he will not be reprising his role for the upcoming sequel. In a candid series of posts on Bluesky, Diskin revealed that his departure stems from a disagreement over union protections.
Diskin explained that although Capcom invited him to return for Dual Override, the offer was contingent on him working without a SAG-AFTRA contract. “With a heavy heart, I am no longer the voice of Mega Man,” Diskin shared. He noted that while Capcom provided assurances regarding AI—promising that his voice would never be utilized for generative content—the lack of a formal union framework was a dealbreaker.
According to the actor, personal guarantees aren’t sufficient in an era defined by industrial instability and widespread layoffs. “I need the safety net of a union contract to feel secure,” Diskin stated. He even attempted to bridge the gap by offering to work at a reduced rate if Capcom would agree to unionize the project, but the publisher reportedly maintained that the production would remain strictly non-union.
The friction highlights a growing divide between talent and publishers regarding the rise of generative AI. Following a nearly year-long strike that concluded in mid-2025, SAG-AFTRA secured new safeguards requiring disclosure and consent for the use of digital likenesses. However, those protections only apply to union-sanctioned projects, leaving actors on non-union sets to negotiate their own individual terms.
Mega Man: Dual Override was first unveiled during the 2025 Game Awards. The title is currently slated for a 2027 release and is expected to launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch 2, and PC, alongside previous-generation hardware.
