Fans of the Warhammer 40,000 universe have cause to celebrate yet again: author Guy Haley and Black Library are set to publish a new novel titled “Archmagos,” which follows the exploits of Belisarius Cawl — one of the most senior figures within the Adeptus Mechanicus.

Belisarius Cawl is a prominent and much-discussed character in the Warhammer 40,000 setting. He first appeared as a supporting figure in Guy Haley’s “Dark Imperium” trilogy, where his role began to attract considerable attention.

He later graduated to the lead role in novels such as “Belisarius Cawl: The Great Work” and “Genefather,” where Haley explores his ambitions and the ethical boundaries he is willing to cross.

Black Library and Guy Haley have now revealed another installment devoted to this tech-priest’s adventures, titled “Archmagos.”

The new tale centers on Cawl’s continued attempts to stabilise the Attilan Gap at the behest of Roboute Guilliman, aiming to open another viable crossing of the Great Rift. To complete this latest stage of his Great Work, he must recover a set of control codes preserved on an ancient Necron world.

The complication is that the planet in question lies trapped at the event horizon of a black hole, dramatically raising the stakes. To accomplish his objective Cawl will have to marshal recruits from across the Adeptus Mechanicus — and his meddling in forbidden matters has drawn the attention of a similarly obsessed, far more sinister artificer. Rumors suggest that Vashtorr the Arkifane has begun to stir.

“Archmagos” is scheduled for release later in 2025 in hardcover, as an e-book and as an MP3 audiobook. A special edition with an ornate cover and the usual extras is also planned, including the short story “Five Questions,” in which Alpha Primus delves into the Warp in search of answers Cawl refuses to provide.
