Battlefield 6 Punishes Menu Inactivity — Players Demand Change to XP Booster System

Battlefield 6 players are frustrated by the way progression boosters operate.

Players of Battlefield 6 have raised concerns about a contentious XP‑booster mechanic that continues to deplete time even when the player is not in a match. Complaints escalated after a Reddit thread in which one user said they left the game sitting in the main menu for forty minutes and returned to find that three active boosters had only ten minutes left.

These boosters are meant to accelerate overall level progression and weapon XP. Unlike Battlefield 4 — and even Battlefield 2042 — where booster timers only ticked while you were in combat, in the sixth installment they run uninterrupted. For players trying to maximize progression efficiency, that can mean wasted in‑game resources or real money spent for little benefit.

Players point out that this design is particularly unfair to those who must wait a long time for matches to begin — for example in less popular modes. Some have compared it to Call of Duty, where booster timers also run while in the menu, calling that behavior “the worst model to emulate.”

Gamers also highlight another inconsistency: if a booster is activated near the end of a match, its bonus applies to all XP earned that round, but if it expires before the match concludes, the double‑XP is not granted at all. Because some boosters last only 15 minutes, using them can feel like a gamble. It’s important to note this issue appears to affect only account‑level boosters — weapon XP boosters operate under different rules.

Despite the criticism, Battlefield 6 is posting record numbers. The title has become the best‑selling shooter of the year and, by various estimates, has neared the 10 million copies sold mark. Fans are hoping the developers will take the feedback into account and refine the user experience.
