Battlefield 6 Player Requests Steam Refund After 470 Hours Following Game Update

Recent reductions to the game mode lineup have sparked some discontent within the community.

Developers of the shooter Battlefield 6 recently removed several game modes, such as King of the Hill and Squad Deathmatch. The removal of Rush from the available list proved to be the final straw for one community member.

A user known as ExplorEverythingOnce felt so upset over the loss of their favorite modes that they decided to request a refund from Valve:

I was upset when King of the Hill and Squad Deathmatch were removed from the game. However, I refuse to tolerate the removal of the Rush mode. This is the mode where I have the most hours played.

ExplorEverythingOnce shared that they contacted Steam support because they believe the developers who removed their favorite game modes do not deserve their money:

I contacted Steam support and explained that several game modes were removed from the game without warning almost a year after its release. I provided a link to the Battlefield website listing all the modes available through matchmaking, and then a link to today’s Community Broadcast publication.

They subsequently stated that they successfully secured a refund for Battlefield 6, claiming a Valve representative agreed with their perspective. At the same time, ExplorEverythingOnce asserts that they had already logged 470 hours in the shooter by the time they submitted the refund request:

The support representative I spoke with agreed that this was wrong, and therefore refunded me the full amount I paid for the Phantom Edition on launch day. Battlefield Studios, you cannot delete the modes I play and keep my money at the same time.

While Valve has occasionally expanded its refund policy, players found this story confusing, and many doubted ExplorEverythingOnce. In response, they published “proof” by displaying a screenshot snippet from their purchase history showing an entry for a Battlefield 6 refund. However, this image was not considered convincing because such material is easily forged.

Mentions of the Rush mode are still present in promotional materials published on the Battlefield 6 store page on Steam. This could be regarded as false advertising, though it remains difficult to imagine that Valve would expand its refund program for the shooter on these grounds. Other community members who are similarly unhappy with the removal of several game modes have not yet reported any successful experiences getting refunds for the shooter.
