Legendary entertainer Barry Manilow is extending his hiatus from the stage as he continues his recuperation following surgery for lung cancer. The 82-year-old Grammy winner shared the update with fans on Friday, February 20, announcing the postponement of several upcoming tour dates.
The decision follows a mid-January surgical procedure to treat stage one lung cancer, a diagnosis Manilow received late last year. Despite his eagerness to return to the spotlight, a recent consultation with his medical team led to a change in plans. Manilow described the appointment as a “very depressing visit,” during which his surgeon insisted on more rest for the initial leg of his 2026 arena tour, originally slated for February 27 through March 17.
Writing to his followers on Instagram, the “Mandy” singer admitted he had been optimistic about a quick turnaround. “I was sure that I would be able to do the Arena shows in a few weeks,” he noted. However, his physician cautioned that a full 90-minute performance would be physically premature. According to Manilow, the doctor explained that while he is in remarkable shape given the circumstances, his lungs have not yet regained the stamina required for a high-energy production.
“Deep down, I wanted to go back — but my body knew what my heart didn’t want to admit: I wasn’t ready,” Manilow confessed.
While 13 arena performances are being rescheduled, there remains a strong possibility that Manilow will return for his planned Las Vegas residency dates on March 26–28 and April 2–4. The singer expressed profound regret over the delay, offering a sincere apology to fans who had already secured tickets for the postponed shows.
As of now, Manilow’s official itinerary still lists several sold-out dates across the United States for the latter half of April. Fans are encouraged to keep their tickets as details regarding the new dates are finalized.
