Ayaneo is expanding into smartphones with the Pocket PLAY — a gaming handset that sports a sliding display, familiar physical controls, and two integrated touch trackpads.
With the new year approaching, Ayaneo — best known for its portable consoles — has surprised fans with an unusual reveal. Today the company released the first trailer for its slider-style gaming smartphone, the Pocket PLAY.
The controls remain concealed until the user slides the top section of the chassis — the part that houses the screen — upward. Once extended, the usual ABXY buttons, a D-pad, and Start and Select buttons become accessible.
The Pocket PLAY is also fitted with two Smart Dual-Mode Touchpads that can operate either as virtual analog sticks or as conventional touch surfaces.
In addition, the device includes several extra function buttons, among them a dedicated Ayaneo key on the right edge. A striking red button sits between the D-pad and the left touchpad — its function has not been revealed yet.
From the footage, the Pocket PLAY appears to use an aluminum and glass construction. Its cameras likely won’t be a standout feature and probably won’t rival the latest Samsung Galaxy or iPhone flagships.
At present, Ayaneo has not announced a release date, specifications, or pricing for the Pocket PLAY.
