Arc Raiders introduces flying flamethrower drones and beards
Prepare for a shift in the atmosphere as Arc Raiders prepares to launch its latest content expansion, Shrouded Sky, on February 24. This significant update introduces a volatile new map condition, an engaging community project, and a fresh Raider Deck, alongside two formidable Arc adversaries designed to test the mettle of even the most seasoned scavengers.
The first of these threats, the Firefly, is an aerial drone equipped with devastating incendiary capabilities. Described by developer Embark Studios as a “floating nightmare,” this unit forces Raiders to seek immediate cover or risk being incinerated by its persistent flamethrower jets. On the ground, players must navigate around the Comet. This spherical automaton patrols the Rust Belt, locking onto nearby targets before detonating in a high-impact explosion that can end a run in seconds.
Style meets substance with the introduction of The Surgeon Raider Deck. This new progression track allows players to unlock a distinct cosmetic set inspired by the duality of medicine. As players complete challenges within the deck, they can lean into the healer archetype or embrace a more sinister, “Mr. Hyde” persona. As the official blog suggests, players can “scrub up” to either mend their squad or unleash destruction across the surface.
Character customization is also expanding with the debut of facial hair. Upon the update’s release, the Stubble look will be granted to all players automatically. Those seeking a more rugged appearance can unlock the Full Beard via The Surgeon deck, while the Stubble Beard and Thick Moustache will hit the in-game store for purchase on launch day. Embark playfully noted that while the new aesthetic might feel different at first, “it grows on you.”
Environmental hazards are reaching a fever pitch with the addition of The Hurricane map condition. This tempestuous weather event isn’t just a visual hurdle; it ties into a new project involving Shani, where Raiders must scavenge specific materials to help her construct a sophisticated weather-monitoring system. These updates arrive tomorrow via the Shrouded Sky patch. For a comprehensive look at the technical changes, you can consult the official Shrouded Sky patch notes.
