The debut of Marathon has demonstrated that the market can accommodate two major extraction shooters simultaneously, a trend clearly reflected in the latest Steam bestseller charts.
Marathon continues to hold its position near the top of the rankings, currently sitting in sixth place, while ARC Raiders maintains a strong presence at number nine.
Early predictions of a catastrophic failure on the level of Concord or Highguard have proven unfounded. Marathon has achieved a solid 88% user rating on Steam, with concurrent player counts peaking at over 88,000 on its release day. Consequently, labeling the title “Concord 3.0” appears to be a significant exaggeration. The reception on the PlayStation Store has been equally positive, with the game boasting an average score of 4.66 out of 5.
Simultaneously, ARC Raiders has shown remarkable resilience in the face of Marathon’s launch. At least on Steam, the game experienced a notable surge in engagement; on March 8, it reached a peak of over 235,000 simultaneous players.
This success was bolstered by a recent update that introduced fresh gameplay elements. Ultimately, both shooters are thriving in parallel, proving that the genre has plenty of room for both contenders.
