Sony is officially revisiting its landmark horror franchise with the announcement of Until Dawn 2. Given the famously lethal “interactive slasher” mechanics of the original, players can expect a fresh ensemble of characters to terrorize. This time around, the narrative centers on a group of paranormal-obsessed influencers hoping to capture viral content—a premise that, predictably, is destined to spiral into a nightmare.
<p>Scheduled for a 2027 release on PlayStation 5, the sequel is being developed by the team at Firesprite.</p>
<p>The new roster features the crew behind "Dead True," a popular paranormal web series. While their exploits are typically staged for clicks, their excursion to a remote, corporate-abandoned island forces them into a genuine fight for survival as they encounter lethal, real-world horrors.</p>

The trailer pulls no punches, highlighting classic genre tropes—from high-tension interpersonal drama to gruesome, stylized deaths—including a harrowing sequence featuring an ill-fated character named Luke. Longtime fans will also be pleased to see the return of Peter Stormare, who reprises his chilling role as Dr. Hill.</p>
<p>Interestingly, Supermassive Games—the studio behind the original title and other genre staples like <em>Directive 8020</em>—is notably absent from this project. Although the team previously explored concepts for a follow-up, development has instead been handed to Firesprite, the studio behind <em>Horizon Call of the Mountain</em> and <em>The Persistence</em>.</p>
<p>For the uninitiated, the series functions as an interactive cinematic experience where player agency is paramount; every choice ripples outward, potentially sealing the fate of the cast. Staying true to the franchise's grim promise that "everyone can live, everyone can die," the game hinges on whether your decision-making keeps your characters safe or leads them to an early grave. We’ll see if Firesprite can capture that same lightning in a bottle when <em>Until Dawn 2</em> arrives in 2027.</p>
